A warm welcome awaits you in all the Christian churches of St Ives over this Christmas and throughout the New Year.

Do you know the Christmas story?

'Now all this happened in order to make what the Lord had said through the prophet come true, "A virgin will become pregnant and have a son, and he will be called Emmanuel, God with us ".

Jesus was born in the town of Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of Herod the King.

Soon afterwards, wise men who studied the stars came from the east to Jerusalem and asked, "Where is the baby born to be king of the Jews? We saw his star in the east, and we have come to worship him."

Stars play an important part in Christmas celebrations. It was a star that led the wise men to Jesus. Throughout the world in the Advent and Christmas seasons the star, like the star above the stable in Bethlehem, bears witness to the light that entered into the world in JESUS - EMMANUEL - GOD WITH US.

This Christmas, when thousands of us are with our families, giving ourselves up to amusement and singing, let us pause to pay honour to Jesus from whom all this happiness comes. Let us remember that this is Christmas, the festival of Christ. Let us on the wings of our lovely Christmas carols, go back in imagination to that mystic, starlight night when God spoke to the world a new word, the word that became flesh and dwelt among us, until, in human life, full of love, full of tenderness, full of sympathy and kindliness, full of utter self-giving, the nature of God was fully revealed in JESUS CHRIST THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD.

Behold the great creator makes

Himself a house of clay,

A robe of virgin flesh He takes

Which He will wear for ay.

Hark, hark, the wise eternal Word

Like a weak infant cries!

In form of servant is the Lord,

CandleCandleAnd God in a cradle lies.

The wonder struck the world amazed,

It shook the starry frame;

Squadrons of spirits stood and gazed,

Then down in troops they came.

Glad shepherds ran to view this sight;

A choir of Angels sings,

And eastern sages with delight

Adore the King of kings.

Join then, that are not stone,

And all our voices prove,

To celebrate the holy One,

THE GOD OF PEACE AND LOVE

May the blessings of Jesus Christ, the Light of the World, the Prince of Peace, our Saviour and King, be yours this Christmas and throughout the New Year.
