Open Door

Tuesday Mornings

Our Tuesday Open Door originally started (some 15 years ago) as an attempt to open up our Church premises to anyone who was seeking friendship, and companionship, and who perhaps would like to join in a regular mid-week Act of Worship at the beginning of the day.

We now have a group of usually about twenty, who meet for a half-hour Communion service before we open up for coffee. And then many more come and go between 10:00 a.m. and noon. A group from one of the local Day Centres have been joining us regularly for a long time now. We all know each other well, and we are constantly seeking to find new ways of involving them in our fellowship. It is very helpful if other folk can spare time to come and chat with them (and even sometimes play Uno or table-tennis!)

We offer a simple lunch to anyone who would like to stay, and increasingly this has become a means of reaching out, particularly to any who are living alone, or have recently been bereaved. Some have gradually forged links with the Afternoon Fellowship that follows our Open Door on a Tuesday afternoon.

For the future, we feel if we had more helpers, there would be opportunities to spend more time, talking, and listening to those who bring with them a variety of problems and are often isolated in the community. We seek new directions to reach out, in the name of Christ, to witness more effectively to all who come through our doors.
