The Toddler
Group has continued to meet every Tuesday morning during term time from 10:00
a.m. until 11:30 a.m.
The Parents and Toddlers Group gives a warm welcome each Tuesday morning to around twenty parents with their babies and toddlers. In the six months from July to December we had a plentiful supply of new babies, even on one occasion having a set of triplets! We have also had visits from two Polish families who spoke little English. It is a great joy on behalf of the Church to welcome so many visitors. At one stage we had to expand into the Doctor’s Room as our numbers grew too large.
We never turn anyone away and feel that it is part of our outreach as a Church that we are able to offer our premises and our fellowship in this way to people in the community of St Ives. Some have said that, as newcomers to the town, the group was the first place where they made new and lasting friends. We place no obligations upon them, but all are aware of the presence of the Minister on the premises each Tuesday and that the opportunity exists to speak with him should they have any problems to discuss.
Very few of the parents have any Church attachment. The baptism of Heather Wessel’s son Frederick in the autumn provided an opportunity to discuss the question of baptism. Hugh spoke to the group and expressed his willingness to meet with anyone who might wish to know more. As yet there has been no response and we do not press the point. The parents appreciate the chance to meet with others, to make friends and share experiences. All, children and parents, enjoy the Christmas service. Each child received a present at Christmas and an Easter egg at Easter. As leaders we gain from the enjoyment of seeing the children flourish and grow in confidence. Our task this year has been made easier with additional help each week from Wendy Ware and Audrey Hedger. For this we are very grateful.
